Is it painful,
caterpillar to moth?
To the creature,
probably yes and no.
Yes, in possible struggle from cocoon,
in the unfolding flow of wings.
No, in the middle of joy,
transformative.

Even cocooned, wrapped
in transition,
already a lepidopteran,
secure in process
courage elemental.

What comes forth
from encasement seeming,
appearing new, is not
at all truly new.
What sightfully emerges
beauty original, always
and already present;
as it is with you.

From your past, interest driven.
From your future, strength drawn.
In your present, energy delivered.

It was August, mile four,
one of my long walks.
Quiet, peaceful, simple,
thoughts fired into memories.

Feeling, from all those years ago,
the shade of grandparent trees,
porch time with Sallie and Henry.

The memories thick as fireflies
on such a Mississippi evening.

The red and white kitchen table,
the window behind the bench at that table.

The cupcakes,
oh my, the cupcakes!

I was safe, then,
so safe.

Still, there’s safety in the present,
but no one else must hold the pearl.

Yes, that was a tender time,
open and wide.

I was safe, because?
Because of love,
because of love, unconditional.

In such safety,
unconditionally,
every little thing
had meaning.

The source of meaning was from without,
graciously held by those showing me
the pearl of great price,
the Trueness within.

And from within,
now meaning flows.
Then, every little thing had meaning.
Now, up to me it is
to know meaning in
everything belongs.

Suffer we must
at some locus
and junctures many.
Yes, no one immune.

For him a suffering visitation.
What the trouble was
for certain known by only he.
Certainly most cared not.
But most certainly not you,
you cared intensely.

Intense, a moniker
for you, presumably.
But only to those
seeing with eyes depthless.

Purposeful
Passionate
Present
abundantly more befitting
to the abundance of impact,
the consequence of your care.

So care you do
and caringly you did
what you knew was right
what you knew was good.

Ultimately, what effect
from the cause of care?
Time does tell, to be sure.
Telling as well, your leading hand
lent with intention
guided by your Trueness.

Driven by connection, purposefully
Drawn toward vision, fulfilling
intentionally you act
in presence clear
clearly trusting
creativity inciting.

Seemingly strange, yes indeed
in the two between, you lead.

Tense it will often feel
the pressure of such place.
Yet it is very real
your leadership in such space.

And space is what you give
from your trueness fitted.
And in this space we live
our own reality committed.

From me, expect only my best
in the swirl of trust, leave the rest.

Gathering
together we see with delight
Giving
together we stand in light
Growing
together we release what is right.

So open us to a creative presence.
And what you’ve diligently gathered
gives us freedom in our essence,
growing us in what has surely mattered.

A long and loving look
at what is before me
a page-turner of a book
a beautiful picture of reality.

Precious is my time
in the stream to be still
in the flow-of-it-all metaphorically
metaphorical not meaning not real
quite real it is
in what I see, hear, and feel.

Yes, in the stream splash trout
indeed a noise resounds
and if no one to hear is about
beauty still issues and abounds.

To flow is to be still
to be still is to flow
the holding makes me real
and releasing causes me to grow.

Yes, long and loving
is how I must continue to see
and still and flowing
is the experience of reality.

The Stream as Force

In moments of presence
treasure waits.

Void of sympathy
the past haunts
And in alliance
the future taunts.

With empathetic focus
history teaches
And concurrently aimed
hope reaches.

Junctures of abundance
presence requires
Junctures of abundance
judgment expires.

And only in the moment
can another we really see
And only in the moment
can we each truly be.

With such present trueness
self we no longer chase
With such present trueness
we now walk in grace.

In moments of presence
treasure waits.

Only in the moment.

At Home with Self

The fog soupy, implying unawareness.
I call out, Can you verify my heading?

A generous bearing I desperately seek,
a heading once grasped, now loosed.

I stumble, I fall
in the vaporous air
I hear a call.

Yet again I step
sightlessly forward I hope.
Why do I step
disengaged from the rope?

The call I hear
not a great distance
but oddly very near.

And again I step
confidently forward I know.
For now I step
regenerated by the flow.

The fog breaks, revealing consciousness,
I call out, echoing back is my purpose.

A generous bearing held all along,
a secure home accepted, now freed.
